Selectorized Machines or Plate Loaded Home Gyms?
Choosing the right strength training machine for your home gym can bring you to select between a selectorized machines, such as a universal gym, or plate loaded exercise equipment, such as a powertec or smith machine home gym.
A selectorized home gym equipment allows you to adjust the weight by changing a pin on a weight stack. Changing the resistance on this type of home gym takes seconds and is virtually hassle free. Also with selectorized equipment, the weight stack is build in with the machine and you don’t have to buy any more weight. However, the drawback with this is that you cannot upgrade the weight if you wanted to.
To change the weight on a plated loaded home gym can be a bit more difficult. First, you’ll need to fetch the weight plate and then place it onto the machine. This process takes time, especially if you’re loading up the machine with a lot of weight. Also, the activity of moving the weight also takes away from your workout. Although you’ll need to purchase separate weight plates, the benefit to plate loaded machines is that you can always upgrade the weight.
