Total Home Gym

A total home gym is a workout room that is full of exercise equipment that covers all components of fitness. A home gym with just a treadmill is not complete, because a treadmill only workouts one aspect of fitness (aerobic fitness). Likewise, if all you have is free weights in your home gym, than muscular strength and endurance is satisfied, but aerobic fitness is lacking. When choosing fitness equipment to build a total home gyms, consider the following components of fitness in order to obtain a full body workout:

Aerobic Fitness

How well your heart and lungs work together to supply oxygen to your muscles during exercise. Home cardio machines such as a treadmill or elliptical trainer improves your aerobic fitness.

Muscular Strength and Endurance

Plate loaded home gyms and other resistance training equipment are tools to build this aspect of fitness. Strength is the ability to exert maximum force, while endurance is the ability to perform many repetitions with a given weight.

Flexibility

The ability to move a joint through a full range of motion. This is an often neglected aspect of total fitness.

Body Composition

The proportion of lean mass compared to body fat. A total body home gym workout can improve your body composition.

Overall, a home gym that is complete with equipment that covers the whole components of fitness will yield the best results.
