Top 4 Fitness Myths with Weight Training Equipment Part I-Myths 1-2

With so much information out there about exercise, fitness and weight training equipment coming from so many sources, it’s no surprise people are confused. What will it take to lose weight? What’s the best way to workout? What workout equipment do I need?

Misconceptions about fitness and exercise are everywhere. Here are the 4 most popular fitness myths, and our attempt to debunk them:

1. “I’m a woman, and I don’t lift weights because I don’t want to get bulky like a man”

This is probably the most common weight training myth that women believe. But getting muscles the size of a male requires something you women do not have…testicles! Unless you plan on injecting testosterone, you don’t have to worry about getting bulky. In fact, research supports that weight lifting actually helps you burn fat!

2. “If I exercise my abs, or whatever body part, I’ll lose fat in those areas”

Here’s another popular workout myth. Otherwise known as spot reduction, this is simply not true. When you workout a body part, you’re exercising your muscles. That’s fine, but if you want to lose fat, you’ll have to focus on the fat!

As long as you expend more calories than you ingest, you’ll lose fat. An exercise regiment consisting of weight training, aerobic workout, and a healthy diet will take away the fat away from not only your abs, but your entire body.
