Free Weight Training Equipment
A pair of adjustable dumbbells, an Olympic barbell and an adjustable weight bench is necessary for maximum muscle mass. The adjustable dumbbells do not take up much space in your home exercise room, and dumbbells such as IronMaster or Powerblock dumbbells can go up to 125-130lbs. Also, working out with dumbbells allows you to perform hundreds of exercises. An Olympic barbell with a set of 300lbs weight plates are enough to get you started, and you can easily upgrade to a higher load with additional Olympic weight plates.
Power Rack or Power Cage
Exercise equipment such as a power rack or power cage goes hand-in-hand with an Olympic barbell set. This equipment allows you to safely perform exercises such as the squat using heavy weights. With an optional or attached chin-up bar, you also get the benefit of being able to workout your back with an effective exercise.
Cardiovascular Machine
A treadmill or elliptical cross trainer is effective for fat loss. If this is beyond your budget, then a $5 skipping rope will be just as effective (even though skipping doesn’t seem like a bodybuilding workout).
