Better Workouts with Weight Lifting Equipment: Strength Training Principles

Understand what you’re doing while lifting weights with your weight lifting equipment at home can mean the difference between obtaining results, or wasting your.

Here are some principles you can apply while lifting weights with your strength training equipment:

Overload

To see results you must demand more from your body than it is accustomed to. Your strength won’t increase if you’re performing bench presses with 40 lb if you can lift 140 lbs for 10 reps. To get stronger, you have to “overload” your muscles, so you would lift 145 lbs for 8-10 reps. Small progressive increments in weight is the best way to overload your muscles.

Specificity

This means that the gains you make depends on which muscle groups you’re using, and what exercises you’re doing. For example, if you’re lifting dumbbells using dumbbell curls, your biceps will get stronger, but your legs won’t.

Progression

In order to progress, you’ll need to increase your work load gradually. So keep lifting weights with your exercise equipment on a regular basis to see regular results!
